The Lyalvale Express 28 gauge cartridge was introduced in 1996 to complete the range of gauges available from Express. Express produce four different weights of cartridges to satisfy the market place. A true 2 1/2 inch cartridge with a shot weight of 14 gms (1/2oz) was developed for use in traditional English guns and also a slightly heavier 19gm load for those guns with 2 3/4inch (70mm) chambers. Shortly after the introduction of these two cartridges many game shooters asked Express if it was possible to produce a heavier load suitable for 2 1/2inch chambered guns. Again the development team went away and replied to the request with the 21gm (3/4oz) game shell. This was achieved by the utilisation of a roll turn over Enclosure (RTO) which allows more shot in the case.
