The kit that goes out with a working dog: something to carry it in, water, a tether at the peg, and a way to get a wet dog dry before it goes in the truck. This page carries Jack Pyke Duotex and canvas dog bags, the Jack Pyke corkscrew dog tether and fleece dog coat, collapsible water bowls from Jack Pyke (5 litre) and Web-Tex (4 litre), and the Henry Wag microfibre drying coat and noodle mat.
What earns its place
- A tether keeps a young dog steady at the peg without you holding a lead when the birds come over. Screw it well into firm ground; in soft ground it will pull.
- Water. Dogs working a driven day or a long picking-up session get hot even in cold weather. A collapsible bowl weighs nothing in the dog bag.
- Drying. A microfibre drying coat or mat after the last drive, before the dog sits in a cold vehicle, is one of the best things you can do for an older dog's joints.
For warmth and protection when working see Dog Vests & Coats; for leads, whistles and collars see Collars & Leads. Training kit is under Gundog Training Dummies & Launchers, and shampoos and brushes under Gun Dog Grooming.
