Gun-and-kit holdalls
The Guardian Heritage travel bags in canvas and leather, small and large, are built to take a slipped shotgun alongside boots and clothing for a day. The Napier Razorback Trekker and the De Luxe NATEX holdall do the same job at a lower price. If you are travelling with a gun and everything else in one bag, this is the shape you want.
Duffels and carryalls
The Härkila Expedition duffel at 75 litres is the right size for a stalking week — boots, spare clothing, a wash bag and room for wet kit on the way home. Parker-Hale's Hambledon tweed duffle, messenger and Romsey carryall are the smarter end: lighter loads, a shoot lunch, or a bag you are happy to be seen with at the lodge.
One thing worth being clear about
A holdall is not secure gun storage or a certificated case. It carries a gun in a slip from the vehicle to the peg. It does not satisfy any requirement for security at home or for how a firearm is transported and left unattended — for that see gun cabinets. If you want a hard case for travel, look at rifle and shotgun cases.
Sizing
Measure the longest thing going in — usually a slipped gun — and check it against the internal length in the listing rather than the overall dimensions. A bag that is an inch short is no use at all.
