Bases and rails — the part between the action and the rings. Picatinny rails, Warne Maxima steel two-piece bases and a Blaser saddle mount for Zeiss ZM/VM rail scopes, plus a few bench items that live on the same shelf.
Read this before you order
- Bases are action-specific, not calibre-specific. A base for a Tikka T3 will not fit a Savage with an AccuTrigger, and a Steyr Mannlicher M needs its own. Identify the action and the model generation, not just the make.
- Check whether the action is already drilled and tapped, and to what spacing. Short and long actions of the same model often differ.
- A canted rail is for long range. A 0 MOA rail is the default and right for almost all stalking. Built-in cant only buys you elevation you would otherwise run out of past several hundred metres; at normal stalking ranges it costs you zero.
- Mind ring height against objective diameter. A 56mm objective will not clear low rings. Work out the ring height with the rail fitted, not before.
- Torque matters. Base screws and ring screws have different figures and over-tightening a ring will distort a scope tube. Use a torque driver rather than feel.
