A-Tec Sound Moderators

    Filter

A-Tec build modular moderators, which is the whole point of them: you add or remove modules to trade length and weight against sound reduction, on the same rifle, depending on what you are doing that day.

      The ranges

H3 (Hertz 3) — the modular series, stocked here in .30 calibre, with a universal end cap brake covering 0–.375.

PRS — available as one, two or three module units, so you can start short and add.

      Optima — the Optima 45 and Optima 60 front-mounted moderators, including a 6.5mm M18x1 and a .30 in 5/8in-24 UNEF.

A-Flow — the 1+2 in QD-Lock, for swapping between rifles quickly.

Wave 22LR — the rimfire moderator in standard and carbon, plus the CMM-6 rimfire in 1/2in-20 UNF.

The mistake people make: thread pitch

A moderator is bought on the thread, not on the calibre. A-Tec units in this collection come in 1/2in-20 UNF, 1/2in-28, 5/8in-24 UNEF and M18x1, among others. Read the thread off your barrel — or off the paperwork from whoever threaded it — and match it exactly. A-lock thread adaptors are stocked where a change is needed, but an adaptor is a compromise on concentricity and is not a substitute for the right thread.

Check the bore size too. A .30 moderator will happily run a 6.5, but a 6.5 unit will not take a .30.

      The legal position

A sound moderator must be authorised on your firearm certificate before it can be supplied. The certificate is checked at the point of transfer, which is face to face; moderators are not despatched to a private address. If your certificate does not already carry a moderator for the calibre, that variation has to be granted first. Thread adaptors, covers and end caps are unrestricted.
