Baratec make coated grip gloves and they are sold here the way they are used - in 12-pair packs, for a yard, a gang or a shoot day where gloves get soaked, torn and lost.
Four coatings are stocked: latex gripper for wet and dry grip, a thermal latex version of the same for cold work, a PU-coated palm and finger glove, and a nitrile coated grip glove with an elasticated wrist. The latex lines carry an EN388 mechanical rating.
Picking the coating
- Latex for wet. It grips a wet handle, a wet post and a wet carcass better than anything else here, and it is the one to have in the beaters' bus in November. It is the least dextrous of the four.
- PU for fine work. Thin, close-fitting, good on fiddly jobs - and the first to wear through on rough timber.
- Nitrile for oil and abrasion. The all-rounder, and the one that survives fencing and handling steel.
- Thermal latex only when it is genuinely cold. The lining costs you feel, and a glove you cannot work in gets taken off, which defeats the purpose.
None of these is a shooting glove - they are too thick at the trigger finger and the coating is noisy. For shooting and stalking gloves see Gloves.
