What they are for
Blank firers do one job in the field: making a controlled noise. Most of what leaves the counter goes to gun dog work — introducing a young dog to shot and building steadiness before it ever stands next to a gun on a live day. The rest goes to athletics starting, dog trials and re-enactment. They fire blank cartridges only and cannot chamber live ammunition.
The legal position — read this before ordering
Blank-firing pistols of this pattern are generally classed in the UK as Realistic Imitation Firearms, which carries specific possession and supply requirements, and the rules are not the same as for a starting pistol you might remember from twenty years ago.
