Mil-Com

Mil-Com make forces-pattern kit at a working price. It is not technical hunting clothing and does not pretend to be — no membranes, no camouflage licensed off a Scandinavian design. What it is instead is hard-wearing, cheap enough to ruin, and cut to patterns that cadets, keepers and anyone doing dirty ground work already know.

Trousers are the core: Soldier 95 in British DPM, heavyweight combats in black, and MOD police-pattern ripstop. Roomy, plenty of pocket, and no great loss when a fence post takes a knee out.

Field kit. The ripstop nylon poncho doubles as a basha and is the cheapest shelter you can carry. Trouser twists blouse the bottom of a combat trouser over the boot, which keeps ticks and seed heads out. Magnesium firestarter block, backup compass on a lanyard, mosquito head net.

Socks — patrol and cadet weights, sold cheaply enough to keep a spare pair in the truck.
