Brushes

Bore and chamber brushes by calibre and material.

      • Phosphor bronze — the standard for shifting carbon and copper fouling. More aggressive, and the usual choice for a proper clean.
      • Nylon — gentler, for routine cleaning, for applying solvent, and for anyone nervous about a coated or match barrel.
      • Chamber brushes — Napier Payne Galway heads, for the part of a shotgun that fouls worst and gets cleaned least.

Two practical points: brushes are calibre-specific, and thread standards differ between UK and American rods — check you have the right adaptor. And a brush is a consumable. Once the bristles have gone soft it is polishing, not cleaning.
