The Hornady Lock-N-Load Modified Case for 30/30 Winchester is a reloading measurement tool — not ammunition. It is designed for use with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length (OAL) Gauge (sold separately) and allows handloaders to measure the distance from the cartridge head to the rifling lands in their own 30/30 Win rifle. The modified case is manufactured to SAAMI specifications and features a threaded neck that accepts the LNL OAL Gauge. To take a measurement, seat a bullet of your choice in the modified case, chamber the assembly in your lever or single-shot 30/30 rifle, and read the maximum OAL from the gauge. That measurement is your reference for setting seating depth with precision. The 30/30 Winchester is one of the most enduring North American deer cartridges and remains used in the UK; handloaders working with round-nose or flat-nose bullets in lever-action magazines will benefit from confirming the precise OAL that suits their chamber. One modified case per calibre is required.
