The small kit that turns a hide, a high seat or a hedgerow into somewhere you can actually sit still for three hours.
Structure. Hide poles and extendible bivi poles — the Jack Pyke Super Hide pole set and the Web-Tex extendible pole — hold net off your head and off the muzzle. Camouflage ratchet tie-downs do the rest.
Comfort, which is not a luxury. A roll-up waterproof shooting mat and a fibre-fleece seat cushion are the difference between staying out until last light and fidgeting yourself off the ground at four o'clock. Cold coming up through you is what ends most sits, not the air temperature.
Rest and security. A padded shooting rail rest steadies a shot out of a box blind far better than a bare timber rail. Treestand cable locks earn their place if the seat lives out on a permission you do not have eyes on.
Before the season. Inspect anything that has stood out over winter — straps, welds, rungs, and the tree itself. Then check your backstop from the seated position at the angle you will actually shoot. A seat that was safe in March is not automatically safe in September.
