Which of the two you want
The difference is not price, it is how the unit goes on the rifle.
Stellar 3.0 is a dedicated thermal riflescope - it replaces your day scope, so the rifle becomes a thermal rifle and stays that way until you swap back. Stocked here in 35mm (SQ35L), 50mm (SQ50L, SH50L) and 60mm (SX60L, SX60LS), all with built-in laser rangefinding. That is the one to choose if the rifle is used mainly after dark, because there is nothing to fit in the field and no second zero to worry about.
Thunder 3.0 is a front clip-on - it mounts ahead of the day scope you already have and turns it into a thermal sight, then comes off again for daylight. Stocked in 35mm (TH35C, and TQ35CL with LRF) and 640px 50mm, with and without LRF. That suits a rifle doing both jobs, or a stalker who wants one thermal unit to move between rifles. Check the objective diameter of your day scope and the adaptor you will need before ordering.
Choosing the sensor and lens
A 640px sensor identifies at range where a lower-resolution unit only detects. Lens size trades reach against field of view - 35mm finds a fox in a wood faster, 50mm and 60mm reach across open ground but through a narrower window. Buy for your ground.
On the law: a thermal sight is not itself a certificate item, but the rifle it goes on is. Night shooting of deer is separately restricted - authorisation from NatureScot in Scotland, and under the Deer Act in England and Wales. Check your own position before using thermal after dark.
