The Ayako from Gerber Gear is a slender folding knife that takes much of its design inspiration from traditional Japanese style blades.
The knife utilises a straight, fine edge with a gradual incline which ends in a modernised tanto style tip, making it useful for cutting and chopping. The blade itself is made from 7CR17MoV stainless steel with a coating of titanium nitride oxide for increased protection against scratching, corrosion and staining.
The handle offers good grip through its use of subtle riveted aluminium scales, which directly reference traditional Japanese tsukamaki (Art of Sword Handle Wrapping).
The Ayako can be smoothly deployed with one hand via its finger flipper or easily with two hands with help from the oversized thumbhole found on the blade. Utilises a frame lock for safe use whilst open.
Can be carried within a pocket or worn via the integrated pocket clip.
