The Marttiini Bronze Bird, also known as the Eagle Knife, was the first in Marttiini's range of animal-themed knives and remains one of the Finnish maker's most popular designs. Its distinctive eagle-head pommel was created by jewellery designer Jorma Laine in the mid-1970s, and the shape has become one of Marttiini's most recognisable details. The blade is 11cm of stainless steel (grade 1.4034), hardened to 53.5-55 HRC for a fine, long-lasting edge, giving a total knife length of 22cm. The handle is heat-treated curly birch, a traditional Finnish knife material prized for its wavy grain and durability, finished with a wax coating and fitted with cast bronze ferrules. A black leather belt sheath, made in the traditional Marttiini way, completes the knife and protects the blade in use.
