Prandi's German-pattern felling axe is built for serious wood work — felling, limbing and splitting rather than light trimming. The head is forged from carbon steel C45/1045, polished and hardened for a durable, long-lasting edge, and weighs a substantial 1250 grams (2.80lb): heavy enough to carry real striking energy through a swing. It's fitted to a 27.60in varnished hickory handle, noticeably longer than the 23.65in handle on Prandi's lighter 1000g version of the same pattern, giving more leverage and reach for sustained felling and splitting sessions rather than close, one-handed limbing work. Hickory is the classic choice for axe handles: it flexes to absorb shock on impact rather than transmitting it back to the hand, and because the head and handle are a traditional fitted assembly, a damaged handle can be replaced rather than the whole axe written off. The axe comes with a leather scabbard to protect the edge in transport and storage, and a leather loop for hanging.
