Pellets in .177, .22 and larger from H&N, Bisley, Napier and Webley, plus felt cleaning pellets and big-bore slugs.
The legal position in Scotland
In Scotland an Air Weapon Certificate is required to buy, use or possess an air weapon. Pellets themselves are not certificate-controlled, but the rifle they go in is, and both our shops are in Scotland. If you are unsure where you stand, ask before you order a rifle.
Choosing a pellet
- Domed — the default for hunting and for anything past 20 yards. Best ballistic behaviour, most forgiving in wind. Bisley Superfield and Magnum, H&N domed, Webley AccuPell.
- Pointed — H&N Excite Spike and similar. Popular for close-range work; they shed velocity faster than a dome and are rarely the more accurate pellet past short range.
- Hollow-point — expansion at sub-12 ft/lb energies is modest. Useful close in, not a substitute for shot placement.
- Slugs — big-bore and slug ammunition needs a fast twist rate to stabilise. Put slugs through a standard sporting barrel and they will key-hole.
Two things that actually matter
Head size varies between batches as well as between brands, and a rifle that groups with one lot may not with the next — buy enough of a lot that shoots well. And a tin of felt cleaning pellets through the barrel will lift more lead and grease out than most people expect.
