Two different jobs sit on this page, so read the descriptions. The Blazer-Lite is a proper high-candlepower spotlight for reaching out across a field. The WL4, WL6 and WL8 COB LED units and the Ledlenser W1R clip light are work lights — broad, close-range flood for a larder bench, a vehicle tailgate, a gun cabinet or a trailer hitch at four in the morning. A work light will not do a spotlight's job and a spotlight is the wrong tool over a workbench.
What to look at rather than lumens. For close work, colour rendering and an even flood matter — you want to see whether a carcass is clean, not be dazzled. For anything at distance, beam focus beats output every time; a wide flood at high lumens just lights the air in front of you. Check the charging arrangement too: a 12V lead is worth having if the lamp lives in a vehicle, and the Dust Lamp kit runs off a 12V 16Ah pack for exactly that reason.
