The ACME 570 is a hand-made wooden duck call from J. Hudson & Co of Birmingham, the firm that has built ACME whistles and calls in England since 1870. Turned from English oak and elm, it is the wood-wind version of the classic ACME call, and the natural timber gives it a warm, deep, far-carrying resonance that synthetic calls struggle to match. Worked through a fully adjustable reed, it produces the full range of duck vocabulary, from the deep drake note to the higher hen mallard, along with the high and low quacks that pull birds in. As the name suggests it is built for teal and widgeon as well as general duck calling, and with a little practice on the reed you can shape the pitch and volume to suit the conditions and the birds in front of you. Compact enough to sit on a lanyard alongside your dog whistle, it is a dependable companion for wildfowling and rough shooting over the foreshore or flighting pond.
