If you are refinishing the woodwork on a rifle or shotgun, open-grained walnut can swallow coat after coat of oil before the surface ever begins to fill. CCL Gunstock Grain Sealer is a fast-drying sealer made to fill those open pores quickly, giving you a smooth, sealed base before you move on to oil finishing or polishing. Applied first, it cuts out a good deal of the laborious building-up work, so you reach a level, close-grained finish in far fewer coats of oil. Once dry it is fully compatible with supplementary finishing oils, letting you carry on with your chosen oil or wax without lifting or reacting against the sealed grain. The result is a more even, harder-wearing finish that better resists the knocks and damp of stalking and rough shooting. Supplied in a 50ml bottle with full instructions in the box, it sits alongside CCL's wider range of stock-renovation products from a long-established British maker.
