The Hornady CX (Copper alloy eXpanding) is a monolithic copper alloy rifle bullet designed for handloaders seeking exceptional terminal performance on medium to large game. Weighing 185 grains and measuring .338 in diameter, this one-piece copper alloy projectile eliminates core-jacket separation and delivers deep penetration with around 95% weight retention. The Heat Shield® tip — made from a heat-resistant polymer — resists aerodynamic heating during flight, maintaining a consistently high ballistic coefficient from muzzle to target and providing bullet-to-bullet uniformity in meplat shape. Optimised groove geometry reduces bearing surface and fouling in the barrel while maximising aerodynamic efficiency. The CX is fully compatible with lead-free hunting requirements, making it suitable for California and any other jurisdiction where non-traditional bullets are mandated. Sold as component projectiles for reloading, these .338-calibre bullets are appropriate for deer stalking, driven hunts, and any application requiring reliable expansion and pass-through penetration. No firearms certificate is required to purchase component bullets in the UK.
