The Hornady GMX® (Gilding Metal eXpanding) is a lead-free, monolithic copper alloy rifle bullet designed for handloaders who need deep penetration and reliable expansion across a wide range of game sizes. At .375" diameter and 250 grains, it suits cartridges such as .375 H&H Magnum, .375 Ruger and .376 Steyr. The one-piece copper alloy construction is tougher than pure copper, routinely retaining 95% or more of its original weight and expanding to up to 1.5 times its original diameter on impact. A hard polymer tip initiates expansion by driving into the hollow cavity at the bullet's nose, producing a controlled mushroom as the projectile passes through tissue. The long, sleek profile incorporates crimping cannelures and pressure-relieving grooves that reduce bearing surface and fouling, aiding consistent seating during reloading and delivering even pressure curves shot to shot. Lead-free construction makes the GMX fully compatible with areas requiring non-lead projectiles, including designated wildlife zones. Suited to plains game through to dangerous game, this bullet offers handloaders a versatile, high-performance option for large-calibre rifle work.
