The Hornady XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) jacketed hollow-point in 140 grains offers handloaders a heavier option in the .357" diameter range, suited to .357 Magnum handloads where greater sectional density and deeper penetration are the priority. The additional mass makes this bullet a solid choice for hunting applications where terminal performance on larger or tougher quarry matters. Controlled expansion is achieved through precise serrations that divide the jacket into symmetrical sections, initiating reliable upset even at the lower end of the velocity spectrum. The drawn gilding-metal jacket varies in thickness along its length — thicker over the shank, thinner toward the nose — governing the rate of expansion throughout penetration. A swaged lead core provides uniform density for balanced, consistent upset and good in-flight stability. The fully enclosed nose keeps the hollow cavity clear on impact and ensures reliable feeding in semi-automatic pistols. Revolver bullets include a cannelure for accurate, consistent case crimping.
