The Hornady FTX (Flex Tip eXpanding) in 45 calibre (.452" diameter) at 200 grains is engineered for the 460 S&W Magnum — a cartridge that operates at high revolver velocities. Standard hollow-point designs can expand too rapidly at those speeds, sacrificing penetration; the FTX's patented soft polymer Flex Tip compresses into the bullet on impact to initiate controlled, reliable expansion across a broad velocity spectrum instead. Like all FTX bullets, the tip is safe in tubular magazines should handloaders also use these in lever-action platforms chambered for compatible cartridges. A one-piece, high-antimony lead core is mechanically locked to the jacket via Hornady's InterLock ring, retaining maximum bullet weight and driving deep penetration on large or heavy-boned game. The ballistically efficient secant ogive promotes a flat trajectory and consistent accuracy, while a heavy jacket over the bullet shank complements the InterLock design to keep expansion controlled under the most demanding conditions.
