- Hornady ELD-X — all-range hunting bullet designed for consistent expansion from 0 to 400+ yards
- Calibre: 7mm / .284" diameter, 150 grain weight
- Heat Shield tip resists aerodynamic heating to maintain BC throughout the trajectory
- 50–60% weight retention at close range; 85–90% retained weight at extended range
- InterLock ring and thick jacket shank keep core and jacket together during expansion
- Streamlined secant ogive with optimum boat-tail and AMP jacket for match-grade concentricity
- Component bullets for hand-loading — not factory-loaded ammunition
The Hornady ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag – eXpanding) in 7mm .284" at 150 grains is designed to perform as a hunting bullet at all practical ranges, from close woodland shots to extended open-hill distances. At the heart of the design is the Heat Shield tip — a polymer-alternative tip that resists aerodynamic heating in flight, maintaining its shape and ballistic coefficient throughout the trajectory. This Doppler-radar-verified BC is among the highest available in the 7mm hunting-bullet class. At conventional ranges (0–400 yards), high-velocity impact drives rapid expansion through the bullet's full penetration path; the thick jacket shank and raised InterLock ring retain 50–60% of bullet weight. At extended ranges (400 yards and beyond), the Heat Shield tip is driven rearward by impact forces to initiate expansion, producing a large mushroom with 85–90% retained weight for deep penetration. The streamlined secant ogive with optimum boat-tail and Hornady AMP jacket combine for match-grade concentricity. A hand-loader's bullet for open-hill deer work where shots may vary widely in distance.
