The Hornady PTX Powder Through Expander for .308-diameter cases is a precision insert for the Hornady Case Activated Powder Drop, used with the Lock-N-Load AP progressive press. During each cycle the PTX dispenses the powder charge and simultaneously flares the case mouth to .308 inches, combining two operations into one die station. The .308-inch sizing covers .308 Winchester and other .30-calibre rifle cases that accept a .308-inch bullet, as well as straight-walled pistol cartridges of the same diameter. It works correctly with lead, plated and jacketed projectiles. Eliminating the standalone expander die frees a station for a taper crimp die or powder cop, which is a meaningful benefit when loading .30-calibre cartridges on a five-station progressive press. The insert threads directly into the Case Activated Powder Drop using the standard PTX fitting, consistent with the rest of the range.
