- Fits between blade tang and handle scales on a custom-built or re-handled knife
- Adds weight and balance to the front of a larger handle and seals the blade/handle joint
Laurin Metalli's Bolster 18-35-3 Brass Shaped Leuku is a knife-making fitting rather than a finished knife or tool: a solid brass bolster measuring 18mm wide by 35mm long by 3mm thick, with a contoured 'shaped' front face — the largest bolster in Laurin's brass range, sized for a leuku rather than a puukko. A leuku is the large Sámi (Lapland) knife, wider, longer and thicker in the blade than a standard Finnish puukko, historically used for heavier camp work such as light chopping, brush clearing and butchering. Laurin Metalli is a family-run maker based in Kauhava, Finland, trading since 1918 and now in its fourth generation, producing knife blade blanks, bolsters and other fittings that are 100% made in Finland. Fitted between the blade tang and the handle during a custom build or re-handle, the bolster seals the joint, gives a clean transition from blade to grip, and adds weight and balance to the front of a larger handle. Sold as a single component for the maker's own build; check it against your blade's tang dimensions before ordering.
