The Laurin Metalli Carving Blade is a genuine Finnish-made knife blade blank, produced by Laurin Metalli in Kauhava, Finland, a company that has forged blades since 1918. This is the 69mm carving-length blade, ground with the traditional Scandi profile and a plain edge, cut from 80CrV2 carbon steel and hardened to around 59-60 HRC for an edge that takes a fine finish and is straightforward to touch up on a stone. The blade measures roughly 3.25mm through its width and 19mm in depth, with an overall length of around 186mm including the tang, and weighs approximately 44g. It is supplied as a bare blank only, with no handle or sheath fitted, and carries a long, gradually tapering exposed tang designed to be scaled with wood, antler or another material of your own choosing. As a carbon steel rather than a stainless one, it will mark and corrode if left wet or dirty, so a wipe down and a light coat of oil after use is worth doing. It suits carving, whittling and small fixed-blade knifemaking projects where a traditional Scandinavian profile and a proper hardened working steel are wanted.
