Laurin Metalli — known simply as Lauri — has been forging blades in Kauhava, the traditional heart of Finnish knife-making, since 1918. This is one of their leuku blade blanks: a hardened, sharpened 172mm blade with a 39mm-deep, 3.25mm-thick spine, ground to the classic full Scandi profile and left with a narrow tang rather than a finished handle. The leuku itself is the big working knife of Lapland — heavier and longer than a puukko, traditionally used by the Sami for splitting kindling, processing firewood and handling larger butchery and carcass work around camp. Made from 80CrV2, a proven high-carbon tool steel, this blade takes a genuinely keen edge and holds it well through hard use, though — like any carbon steel — it needs a wipe of oil after a wet day to keep rust at bay. Supplied as a blade only, it's aimed at knife makers, bushcrafters and stalkers who want to fit their own handle scales, bolster and sheath rather than buy a finished knife off the shelf, giving a solid basis for a genuinely heavy-duty field or camp knife.
