The Laurin Metalli Small Leuku is a 145mm carbon steel blade blank from the well-established Finnish blade maker, supplied as a blade only — there's no handle and no sheath, so it's aimed at knife makers who want to fit their own furniture and grip. It's made from 80CrV2 carbon tool steel, which takes a very keen edge and is straightforward to resharpen, though like any non-stainless steel it needs drying and a light oiling after use to keep rust at bay. At 145mm the blade sits at a practical mid-size leuku length: bigger and stouter than a standard puukko but shorter than a full-size leuku, with a 27mm blade depth and 3.25mm thickness giving it enough weight behind the edge for general camp work and preparing game. The full tang runs to around 130mm, giving a maker a solid amount of steel to peen and shape a handle onto. This is a blank for building rather than a finished, ready-to-use knife — buy it if you're making your own leuku from scratch.
