Phillips Gun Oil & Cold Blue

    Filter

Phillips make a compact range of gun-care products that covers the jobs most shooters actually do at home: cleaning the barrel, oiling metal, touching up worn blueing and feeding a walnut stock. On this page you will find the Professional Cold Blue (250ml bottle) and Cold Blue Paste, Water Repellent Gun Oil and English Gun Oil aerosols, a Molybdenum Gun Lubricant, Gun Barrel Cleaner and English Walnut Oil for stock finishing.

      Using cold blue

Cold blue is for touching up worn edges, scratches and small areas, not for re-finishing a whole gun. The result depends almost entirely on preparation: the steel must be completely degreased and clean before you apply it, and several thin coats, lightly worked back between them, give a better colour than one heavy one. Oil the area once you are happy with it. Paste is easier to control on small marks; the liquid suits larger areas.

      Oil or lubricant?

A water-repellent oil is for protecting metal after a wet day. A heavier lubricant belongs on moving, bearing surfaces. Oil on the outside, grease where parts rub.
