Cold blueing for touching up scratched or worn bluing on barrels and actions — the cheap fix that stops a bare patch turning into a rust spot.
- Liquid — Birchwood Casey Perma Blue and Phillips Professional Cold Blue. Easiest for larger areas.
- Paste and gel — Phillips cold blue paste and Bisley gun blue gel. Better for spot work, because they stay where you put them.
- Kits — the Birchwood Casey Deluxe Perma Blue and Tru-Oil kit covers metal and stock finishing together.
- Aluminium — Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black, for alloy parts that cold blue will not touch.
Degrease thoroughly first. Cold blue will not take over oil, and the finish is a repair rather than a match for factory hot bluing.
