Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint bullets are component projectiles for handloaders, supplied as a box of 100 unprimed .20 calibre (.204) bullets weighing 40 grains — this is not loaded ammunition. Built for violent, rapid expansion rather than the controlled expansion of a hunting bullet, they are designed to deal with foxes and other vermin quickly and humanely. A polymer tip drives back into the ultra-thin jacket mouth on impact, forcing immediate expansion and fragmentation, while a reinforced mid-section keeps the bullet together in flight until the moment it strikes. A heavy base resists deformation during firing, and the boat-tail profile improves ballistic efficiency for flatter, more consistent shooting at range. Nosler recommends a minimum impact velocity of around 1600 fps for reliable performance. This light, fast 40-grain .204 load suits handloaders working up rounds for .204 Ruger and similar small-calibre varmint cartridges, giving explosive terminal performance with minimal recoil for foxing and vermin control at longer ranges.
