Game Bird Bait & Holding Feed

    Filter

Holding birds where you want them is most of keepering, and bait is one of the levers you have. Two products here, doing slightly different jobs.

      • BushWear Master Bait Mix for Game Birds (3kg) — an aniseed-based additive to mix through your existing grain. It clings to the wheat rather than running off, so it stays in the hopper and keeps working, and it gives birds a reason to come back to a feed ride they have started to drift off.
      • BushWear Pecker Block Pheasant Holding Grain Feed — a solid block that birds work at rather than clear in a morning. Useful where you want birds held at a fixed point without refilling every other day, and where a spilled hopper would just feed the corvids.

      Siting

Bait pulls birds towards it, which is the whole point and also the risk. Site well inside the boundary and think about where the birds will drift once they have eaten — a feed point near a march fence holds your neighbour's birds as readily as your own, and vice versa. Keep it under cover where you can, both to keep it dry and to keep it off the vermin's radar, and expect to move a point that has started attracting the wrong species.

Feeding and baiting arrangements vary between shoots and between ground. Check what your shoot's own agreements and any relevant codes allow before establishing new feed points.
