Mineral licks and feed blocks for establishing a lick site deer will keep returning to - useful for camera work, for holding deer on a piece of ground, and for supplementing minerals through the spring.
What we stock. BushWear Anis aniseed salt lick blocks in 2kg and 10kg - straightforward mineral licks, and the cheapest way to start a site. The BigBoy Brick is a 10kg compressed feed block. Molasses Munchies Plus is a 15kg bucket of molasses, salt, aniseed and grain, which draws harder in the short term than a plain salt block.
Siting a lick. Put it where you can approach with the wind in your favour and where you have a safe backstop from wherever you intend to sit or stand - the lick dictates where the deer will be, so decide the shot first and site the block second. On a stump or a split post keeps it out of the mud and off the ground for smaller species. Give a new site three to four weeks before you judge it; deer find them by scent and are cautious about anything new.
Check your permission. Feeding and baiting are often covered by the terms of a lease or a sporting let, and some ground has conditions attached. Clear it with the landowner before you put blocks out.
