The Marttiini Suomi-Finland is a traditional Finnish puukko knife first made in 1997 to mark 80 years of Finnish independence, with the design refined in 2009 to its present, cleaner form. At the end of the curly birch handle sits a cast bronze pommel in the shape of the Finnish Lion, the same emblem repeated on the leather sheath; the knife is known in Finland as the Sisupuukko, or Stamina Knife, and has been presented to Finnish athletes at the Olympic Games as a mark of endurance and resolve. The 11cm blade is stainless steel (1.4034/X46Cr13), hardened to HRC 53.5-55 and ground to the slim, single-bevel profile typical of a puukko. The waxed curly birch handle is a natural material, so the grain and colouring vary from knife to knife, meaning every example is genuinely one of a kind. At 22cm overall it sits comfortably in the hand for everyday outdoor and camp use, and it is supplied complete with its leather sheath in a wooden gift box, making it as much a presentation piece as a working knife.
