The Maglite Solitaire LED is a keychain-size torch that keeps the classic look of the original Solitaire launched back in 1988, but swaps in a modern LED light engine. Operation is as simple as ever: twist the head to turn the light on and off, and to focus the beam from a tight spot through to a wide flood. Despite its small aluminium body, it puts out 47 lumens with a beam reach of around 46 metres, so it copes well with anything from finding a dropped cartridge in the dark to checking a padlock or gate latch on the way back from the hide. It runs for up to 1 hour 45 minutes on a single AAA alkaline battery, which is supplied along with a lanyard strap, and the body is IPX7 water resistant with a 2-metre drop rating, so it shrugs off a wet gundog lead or a knock in the game bag. Supplied individually in a smart black presentation box, it makes a genuinely useful stocking-filler or keyring companion for anyone who spends time outdoors after dark.
