Woolpower's Long Johns 400 are heavyweight merino wool leggings built in Sweden from the brand's own Ullfrotté Original 400 fabric, a thick circular-knitted terry construction that traps air for effective insulation while wicking moisture away from the skin. The circular knit means no lengthwise seams down the legs, so there's nothing to chafe under trousers or waterproofs during a long day on the hill. A gusset in the back allows a full stride without pulling, with a sewn-in front gusset added on sizes XL and up, and the ankles and waist finish in knitted-in cuffs and waistband that stay put rather than riding up inside a boot or gaping under a belt. Made from 70% merino wool, 28% polyamide and 2% elastane, they weigh around 330g in a size M — genuinely warm without becoming bulky. Woolpower positions the 400 weight as a reinforcement layer worn over a thinner base layer in the coldest conditions or when standing still for long periods, such as on a high seat or in a hide, though they can equally be worn next to the skin. Machine washable at 60°C, they're built for repeated wear on stalking, wildfowling and cold-weather fieldwork.
