The Lee Large Cutter with Lock Stud is the big-bore cutter head from Lee's Case Length Gauge and Shell Holder trimming system, needed for cases .475in and over — 480 Ruger, 500 S&W and 50 BMG — and also usable on any smaller case diameter. It works alongside a calibre-specific Case Length Gauge and Shell Holder rather than on its own: the length gauge and its pilot thread into the cutter head to set trim length, while the correct shell holder locks the case onto the stud so it sits square to the cutter. The stud can be turned by hand or, for faster work on a run of brass, chucked into an electric drill. High-speed steel construction gives the cutter head a hard, long-lasting edge for trimming rifle and large-calibre revolver brass back to a consistent length after repeated firings and resizing. Because it is a shared component across Lee's trimming system, one Large Cutter and Lock Stud covers every calibre for which Lee sells a compatible length gauge and shell holder, rather than needing a separate cutter for each.
