The Barnes LRX 212 grain is a 30 calibre (.308 diameter) BoreRider bullet, sold as a box of 50 heads for handloaders rather than as loaded ammunition. It uses Barnes' all-copper Long-Range X construction with a polymer tip, boosting ballistic coefficient (rated .705, sectional density .319) and prompting rapid, reliable expansion on impact into four razor-sharp petals that open a wide wound channel and hold together for deep penetration and high weight retention on thick-skinned game. The BoreRider design keeps only a short driving band at full .308 diameter, with the rest of the bullet at bore diameter so it aligns with the rifling before firing, reducing yaw and drag for genuinely long-range accuracy. It is a long, boattail bullet (overall length 1.866in) that needs a fast 1:8in twist barrel or quicker — most .308 rifles are cut at 1:10in, so check the barrel stamp first. Seated to the band, the bullet also protrudes around 1.38in beyond the case mouth, so magazine length and feeding need checking before loading. A 100% lead-free option for handloaders reloading for deer stalking or long-range hunting where non-lead ammunition is required or preferred.
