- Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) — polymer-tipped hunting bullet for rapid, controlled expansion
- Hard polymer tip wedges into lead core on impact for fast, reliable expansion
- InterLock ring mechanically bonds core and jacket to maximise weight retention and pass-throughs
- Secant ogive boattail design reduces drag and improves downrange stability
- Mid-body cannelure locks core and jacket; provides consistent crimp point for reloaders
- 270/6.8mm calibre (.277 diameter), 120 grain — light-for-calibre option for flat shooting
- Component projectiles for hand-loading; not loaded ammunition
The Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) is a polymer-tipped hunting bullet designed for rapid, reliable expansion and a devastating wound channel, particularly effective at the higher velocities generated by flat-shooting centrefire rifles. The 120-grain .277-diameter loading suits the 270 Winchester and 6.8mm SPC family of cartridges, offering a relatively light-for-calibre option that retains good velocity at range. On impact, the hard polymer tip is driven back into the lead core like a wedge, initiating fast yet controlled expansion. The secant ogive boattail profile reduces drag and improves stability across the trajectory, while a mid-body cannelure locks core and jacket and provides a consistent crimping point for reloaders. The InterLock ring — a Hornady-exclusive mechanical feature — locks core and jacket together during expansion to maintain bullet integrity, maximise weight retention, and increase the chances of a complete pass-through. These are component projectiles for hand-loading; they are not loaded ammunition.
