The Hornady ELD-X® (Extremely Low Drag – eXpanding) 200 grain .308" component bullet is a handloading projectile designed for all-range hunting performance in 30-calibre cartridges such as .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield and the 300 magnums. It is not loaded ammunition and does not require a firearms certificate to purchase in the UK. The Heat Shield® polymer tip is immune to aerodynamic heating during flight, retaining its shape throughout the trajectory to maintain the highest-in-class ballistic coefficient — verified by Doppler radar. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, combined with Hornady's highly concentric AMP® bullet jackets, produces match-accurate results from the handloading bench. At conventional hunting ranges (0–400 yards), the bullet expands continuously through its penetration path; the thick jacket shank and InterLock® ring keep core and jacket together for 50–60% weight retention. At extended ranges beyond 400 yards, the Heat Shield® tip drives rearward to initiate expansion, delivering a large mushroom and 85–90% retained weight for deep penetration and effective wound channels.
