The Hornady XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) is a jacketed hollow-point handgun bullet designed for consistent, controlled expansion across the wide range of velocities produced by revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Precise serrations cut into the gilding metal jacket divide the nose into symmetrical sections, initiating expansion reliably even at low velocities while preventing over-expansion at higher ones. The jacket thickness varies along the length of the bullet — thicker towards the base — which gives the reloader more control over terminal performance compared with uniformly plated bullets. A swaged lead core ensures uniform density throughout, supporting balanced expansion and consistent in-flight stability. The nose of the bullet is fully covered by the gilding metal jacket so the hollow cavity is protected during feeding in semi-automatics. For revolver loads a cannelure is applied before the final forming step to provide a reliable crimping seat without distorting the finished bullet. This 200-grain, .430-inch diameter option suits lighter, faster .44 calibre handgun loads. Sold as component bullets for handloaders.
