This insert contacts the bullet at a fixed point on the ogive, where variation is negligible, giving the reloader a true base-to-ogive reading that is directly comparable from one bullet to the next. The result is tighter control over seating depth, which directly influences chamber pressure and the distance a bullet jumps to the lands, both critical variables for small-calibre, high-velocity cartridges such as the .204 Ruger.
