Hornady's Varmint Express .17 HMR is a rimfire cartridge built for accurate, flat-shooting vermin and varmint control, and this box holds 50 rounds. Each cartridge is loaded with the 17 grain V-Max bullet, whose red polymer tip drives the lead core back on impact for rapid, dramatic expansion on fox, rabbit, rat and corvids, while keeping the trajectory exceptionally flat across the field. From the muzzle the load leaves a 24-inch test barrel at 2,550 fps with 245 ft/lb of energy, settling to 1,902 fps and 137 ft/lb at 100 yards, so it remains a genuine 200-yard rimfire in the right conditions. Hornady's select brass cases are held to tolerances usually reserved for far costlier match ammunition, and modern propellants keep velocities consistent from lot to lot. The result is one of the most accurate and hardest-hitting rimfire rounds available, well suited to night-time foxing and daytime rabbiting alike.
