The Acme 210 is one of the original gundog whistles from J. Hudson & Co., manufactured in Birmingham since 1950. Moulded in orange plastic, it carries a weatherproof pea that produces the whistle's characteristic trill — a rolling, variable-frequency warble rather than a single clean note. That undulating sound makes it easy to distinguish from other commands and is suited to close-range work where the handler wants a softer, warbling signal rather than a sharp single tone. The high pitch sits above most ambient noise, yet the pea softens its impact for those nearby — an advantage for the handler blowing repeated short pips during training sessions. Dogs that have been conditioned to this distinctive trilling tone will readily pick it out even in a busy beating line or around other handlers. The body is hard-wearing moulded plastic, light in the hand and unaffected by rain or cold. A cord or lanyard can be threaded through the standard keeper hole.
