The Leofoto G4 is a four-way geared head that combines the free movement of a ball head with the precision of a geared head. With the X and Y axes unlocked the camera moves freely, but each axis can also be adjusted on its own. Both tilts share one centre of rotation, keeping the pivot radius small so the composition holds while you fine-tune. With the locking levers set, gear-driven vertical and horizontal adjustments give fine control, while quick-release clutches allow fast, large moves. The G4 adds a separate 360 degree panning base for alignment, and two spirit levels arranged at 90 degrees beneath the upper panorama adjustment remain visible even from a low viewpoint, which makes levelling much easier in the field. The top clamp is Arca-Swiss compatible. With a 60mm panning base, a 3/8 inch mounting thread, a height of around 108mm and a weight of approximately 690g, it is a sensible size for full-size tripods. It suits landscape, architectural, macro and panoramic work. Leofoto advises that slight play can develop in a geared head after extended use, which is normal.
