The Leofoto LB-38 is the compact model in the LB levelling base series: a half-ball design that lets you level your head quickly without fiddling with tripod leg lengths. It offers +/-10 degrees of adjustment and locks securely with a twist of the large butterfly handle around the base of the ball. A 3/8"-16 socket underneath fits any tripod with a 3/8" stud, and a 1/4"-20 stud on top takes the head, with three anti-twist set screws on the platform to stop the head working loose. CNC-machined from aircraft-grade aluminium, it measures 38mm across the top, 33mm at the base and 38mm tall, weighs only 80g and is rated to 3kg. That rating suits lighter set-ups such as a compact ball head and camera, or a small spotting scope or binocular adapter on a travel tripod, where a level platform makes panning along a hillside or foreshore smoother and saves re-adjusting the legs each time you move.
