The Leofoto LH-40 is a mid-sized, low-profile ball head with a 40mm ball, supplied here with a QP-70N 70mm quick release plate. It is made from CNC machined, hard anodised aluminium and gives the firm hold you want from a general-purpose tripod head. An oversized, ergonomic locking knob controls the ball, and a 90 degree drop notch allows quick switching to portrait orientation or steep angles. Micrometer drag tension adjustment lets you set how freely the ball moves, so a heavier camera and lens can be positioned without flopping over. The panning base has its own lock and is laser-engraved at 2.5 degree intervals from 0 to 360 degrees for accurate panoramas. The captive knobs are uniquely shaped so you can tell them apart by touch, and the low profile keeps the load close to the tripod for stability. The clamp is Arca-Swiss compatible. Rated to 20kg, with a height of 87mm, a 57mm panning base, a 3/8 inch mounting thread and a weight of around 491g, it suits DSLR and mirrorless cameras with telephoto lenses, and Arca-mounted spotting scopes or binoculars on a mid-sized tripod.
