The Mjoelner Hunting Spiral Spring Feeder for grain fits into the base of most drum or barrel feeders, giving keepers a low-maintenance way to feed wheat and other grain to pheasants, partridges and other game birds. Birds have to work the spring coil to shake feed loose, which meters out the grain rather than letting it run freely. That slows consumption, keeps feed off the ground around the feeder and leaves the station tidier and less attractive to rats, squirrels and other vermin. It is made entirely from metal with no plastic components, so there is nothing for squirrels or rodents to chew through and it can be left out on the feed ride the whole season. Mjoelner make a matching spiral feeder for corn that fits the same way, so a keeper running mixed feeding stations can standardise on one drum or barrel setup and simply change the spiral to suit what is going in the hopper.
