The Gehmann 597 ISSF Crossover Rear Sight Prism lets a target shooter with a defective or weak eye on their natural sighting side shoot instead with their good eye, without changing their stance or which shoulder the rifle is held from. Fitted between the rearsight iris and the eye, the prism displaces the sight line by 65mm centre to centre, carrying the aiming eye's view through to the standard sight picture with no physical change to how the target appears — though it does call for a larger aperture than usual to compensate. The unit is fully ISSF legal, so shooters in International Shooting Sport Federation smallbore and air rifle disciplines can use it in competition without a rules query. Construction is completely waterproof, with a lens sealed at either end against water and dust ingress. Attachment is direct onto a standard 1" sight disc; where a shorter or longer iris is fitted, Gehmann's separate 597A and 597B cradles (sold apart) adapt the fitting. A knurled 1" ring at the eye end takes a standard eyeshield or eyecup. A specialist fitting rather than an everyday sight accessory, it solves a specific problem — poor vision in the eye a shooter would normally use — cleanly and without compromising ISSF eligibility.
